" Hurricane Ismael" The Killer Hurricane of Mid September 1995

Good Morning to All Lovely On This Warm Summer Morning
How vividly I remember the fall of 1995.I had been watching a weather system for days as it approached the Mexican Southern West Coast Mainland. Before it made landfall it turned to the Northwest and wind speeds intensified.
Before Ismael approached Nayarit I strongly felt that I needed to warn all shrimp boats and all fishermen in the waters off the states of Sinaloa and Sonora.I knew a disaster was imminent as the only other weather service available to the Mexican fishermen was treating this hurricane as a minor storm. It was first reported by me on September 10 with a stern warning.Shrimp boat owners told their crews to "stay at sea and to continue to work".It was the beginning of the shrimp fishing season and catches were excellent.....
The hurricane swept through the waters of Sinaloa and Sonora and sunk 180 vessels leaving almost 400 families without their husbands/fathers or a means of support. It was a disaster felt by every person in this country.National reports played this incident down as all foreign disasters are.
The crews from the vessels from our state of Nayarit who heard my forecast said "if Capt Norman tells us to go to port-we go! ".No one from our state of Nayarit lost his life or was injured. On the 16th of September the primary television and radio station in Mexico "Televisa"called me at my home to commend me for "saving hundreds and hundreds of lives".I was also commended By Mexico's FCC.My only reply was that I wish I could have saved more.
It is apropos at this time to say to all be very thankful to Mr.Donald Anderson. He like myself has devoted his life to help protect the life of all visiting boaters in Mexico with his excellent weather reports and many forms of assistance.   Good Day......      Norm     Aleha Shalom (heb.)   --<"))))))))))-(

Aloha from the Tahiti of Mexico

Dear Friends
The heat and the evening storms have been unbelievable;last week we had wind gusts up to 60/70 knots. My neighbor's very tall coconut tree has been struck by lightning for the second time in three weeks;the first strike took it's life and the second blackened the top 25 feet. The explosion was deafening;most of the light bulbs in our home are now in the wastepaper basket. My weather analysis promises more of the same fare this evening.
September and October are our most dangerous months regarding the killer hurricanes;please be careful. We want you to always be here to enjoy the beautiful Pacific. In my nest blog entry I will discuss the 1995 hurricane "Ismael" which was a national disaster.
My secretary has made an interesting observation and passed it along to me.She informed me that my office has received official documents stating that those who slandered and lied about me,my services to my fellow men (and women) and my position are either being sought by the Mexican Government or are under Federal Investigation. In Mexico as in the United States it is a felony to unjustly attack a public official.
San Blas welcomes all boaters with good intentions; we will do all in our power to show you a very special small port that is over 3100 years old;the oldest inhabited village on the west coast of all the Americas.Do not come here to work illegally or sell contraband;the economy of this small community cannot and will not support that aggressive abuse. Not in any form.

NEEDED INSECT REPELLANT

Hi Everyone,Good Morning,
If you are coming to Mexico I suggest you purchase WATKINS INSECT REPELLENT LOTION-REPEATING, THE LOTION.It is white and smells like hand creme but it is effective. You'll love it!
Google Watkins online;many people sell it and remember "it works".Check carefully for special deals.
Another very important secret to help keep all biting insects away is too keep your body and clothing as clean and odor free as possible.Wear white clothing or the lightest colors that you have;insects are drawn to dark colors.Light cotton fabrics are the best.

Late Summer,Early Fall Warnings

The heavy summer rains continue;the rivers are depositing enormous amounts of dangerous items into the Pacific Ocean.Keep your eyes to the prow;look for lengths of all types of line, sections of gill nets, branches and most importantly entire giant trees. This time of year also finds many illegal floating long lines in place;they will foul on your underwater gear and most certainly be spun up on your propeller....a living nightmare I assure you.Look for floating soda bottles on the water;they are the buoys for the long lines.Usually they are about 15 feet apart and some of the long lines are 2 miles long.
Please be careful also regarding the weather;it is unpredictable. You may be enjoying a lovely summer day and find yourself in 50 knots of wind 30 minutes later. The weather services cannot predict these storms as they are local and usually do not last for an extended length of time.Hurricanes are usually reported but be cautious as they may form in your area and be very problematical in a very short period of time. They have no friends.
    Have a wonderful weekend..stay Beautiful

Good Morning to the Swartz Bay Cruiser

Good Morning My Friend of So Many Years
It was a pleasure to receive your comment. It was also a sincere joy to be your pilot numerous times through the years.I once again congratulate you on your wonderful successful voyage that took you from the far Northwest to my beloved New York City.Did you stop at the Statue of Liberty;she is my Other Woman. My lads and I built the two storied museum around her base in the early 1960's.What a grand project it was;a heartfelt experience to be part of such a beautiful part of America's history.
Now to other matters.Like you I take offense to Herr Spindler's abuses, slander and lies.Herr Spindler is a sociopath;he has become a person that many people find abusive and a person who does not realize who he is.He is a merchant of add space,an editor of a give-away magazine,a desk jockey and nothing more.I do not read his magazine as I've been told what he prints includes filthy language, half naked women and mistruths.I find it apalling that he prints this trash even though he knows young children read Latitude 38. He does this because he has the power to print what HE wants and what what his minions submit.
This year he stated that I am a nobody....two governments differ with him.He was sent proof of my government posts and I asked him to apologize....he refuses to do so;a man would do so."Herr Spindler believes he is the supreme being;if you don't believe me..ask him"."He is a self made made man and worships his creator".
I am glad to see that you also see the extreme danger of "Spindler's Baja Ha Ha" which is held during the most dangerous time of the Hurricane Season. He does not care about the well being of the children, women and men who participate in the "Baja Ha Ha";what he cares about is the many, many hundred of thousands of dollars he makes on this extremely dangerous event.Does he inform the innocent as to how many vessels have been lost or have suffered extreme damage in the Baja Ha Ha?No he does not;what he does is take their money and he makes them sign a release that he (Herr Spindler) is not responsible for anything that happens to them or their vessels.
Hurricane Kenna destroyed a good portion of Jalisco and Nayarit;it struck San Blas at 22 degress 52.9 with 145 mile per hour winds.CABO SAN LUCAS IS AT 21 DEGREES 31.97  October 25,2002.That is a difference of less than 60 miles in latitude. The Baja Ha Ha vessels will be in the Cabo San Lucas area before October 25th.How could these mostly newcomers deal with that kind of a situation? What Baja Port could offer safety.....NONE.

Warning to All New Boaters in Mexico

Good Morning Dear Friends
I feel that I should properly introduce myself.I am Capt Norm in San Blas Mexico.I have been helping boaters from all over the world for over 45 years;I've done this without any payment of any kind.Recently I asked for donations of a few dollars so I could purchase a new hand held radio;I use two hand held radios to guide the boaters through the complicated and dangerous estuary entrance. The slanderers said I demanded payment for my services;that is a lie.The people who made that statement do not care for me as they know that I do not support the fact that many work illegally in Mexico.Mexico is a very poor country and does not need illegals taking badly needed funds out of the economy;by people who come here in expensive vessels.
I have the permission of two governments to help everyone in need.I have been doing this since 1966.I have all the proper documentation. My field is International Relations and I am presently President of that post for the Constitutional Government of the Municipality of San Blas.I am also a Warden of the Consulate General of the United States;I have held that post for 26 years.
I am very tired of Herr Spindler of Latitude 38 and the lies and his slander of many, many years.I recently spoke to an attorney who works for the United States Government in a very important position.I explained about all of Spindler's abuses. That person suggested that I take legal action against Spindler for defamation of character and other offenses. My feelings and that of others are that Herr Spindler is only interested in his money making schemes including his very, very dangerous Baja Ha Ha.
     Have a wonderfull day
Stay Cool   Write me if I can help you or call me on Channel 22 VHF when you get close to San Blas.

Aloha From The Tahiti Of Mexico

To All My Dear Friends,
Fishing being what is presently enables me to have some spare time to share with you.If you have any questions regarding our Mexico (yours and mine) I beg of you to just ask and I will do all I can to assist you.
Before I go any further please allow me to present my credentials.I am the President of International Relations for the Constitutional Government of the Municipality of San Blas,Nayarit,Mexico. Also,I am a Warden of the United States Consulate General;State Department.I am stating these facts not because I am trying to impress you;I just want you to know that I am authorized by two governments to help you in any way that I am able.I do not and never have charged anyone for services regarding these posts. There are some that have stated otherwise but these individuals are slanderers or the ill informed."What terrible beasts jealousy breeds".
Now to the business of today. We are now in mid summer;heavy winds, high seas, heat and humidity abound. The offshore fishermen do not go to sea at present;the devils that have claimed so many in the past await. The fishermen's cantinas are lively; the "lads" boast of last season's catches.
I wish all of you a good day....stay beautiful
       Capt Norm
